Happy New Year!
I was recently asked if I had any New Year's Resolutions. Yes, as a matter of fact, I do!
I resolve to be a little bit bitchier.
Let me explain.
When it comes to my kids, I am a noisemaker. I will do and say whatever it takes to make sure they are taken care of and getting exactly what they need. But when it comes to myself, not so much.
Have you ever heard that phrase "I'd rather be a bitch than a doormat"? Well historically, I have been the doormat. I did whatever it took to not make waves.
If you want to get psychological about it, I remember being a kid and always trying to keep the peace in my often volatile home. I felt like it was my responsibility to keep any fights in the house to a minimum. And if there was tension in the house, how fast could I dance or how loud could I laugh to cover it up, or make it better?
Anyway, that trait seems to have carried into my adulthood. I have found myself in situations where I am not happy with what is being said around me, or with how I am feeling in a particular situation, and I have stayed silent. Until I blow. And when I blow I don't handle things as I should - there is not a lot of thought behind my words and they cause damage.
So I'm thinking that if I am more consistent in my strength, or power, or bitchiness, or whatever you want to call it, I will blow less and reason more.
HAHAHAHA!!!! "Blow less"! That's funny!
Sorry....back on track.
Anyway, recently I have been more verbal about standing my ground, not aggressively, but assertively. There is a difference. And although I am not great at it yet, I will be with more and more practice.
So there you have it - I want to be more bitchy.
What's your resolution?
A wonderful resolution - quietly assertive for yourself. I think that will serve you very well, congratulations!
