Our youngest gets very upset when we have to discipline or 'discuss' and issue with the older one. We too send her to her room so she doesn't get involved. Sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Though as I was reading your article it occured to me that perhaps asking our kids to put on headphones and listen to something soothing while we have a discussion may help them?
